The Naval Air Station at Point Mugu, California, is home to six State or federally listed endangered species of birds, plus one species of plant. In addition, there are many acres of jurisdictional wetlands and salt marsh on the base. While the Navy is very conscientious about protecting this property, they are still required to carry out military operations on station. In addition, various recreational activities, such as duck hunting and the annual air show, take place on base. The purpose of creating this coverage was to provide planners on base with an overview of which areas are most highly sensitive to disturbance of the endangered species by military and/or recreational activities.
