Abstract
GIS Application in Landfill Qurain Area, Kuwait

The Qurain area is located in the south of Kuwait City. This area was chosen 30 years ago to be the landfill site for domestic waste. Today construction has extended around it in all directions. Many disadvantages appeared, and the most dangerous one is the emission of flammable methane gas, which is considered poisonous and threatens the stability of nearby construction areas.
The Environment Public Authority (EPA) is trying to create an environmental management system for Qurain based on geographic information system technology to support the Qurain development plans. This project has the following objectives:
1) build a complete database that containing both spatial and attribute data to support a GIS environmental management system and 2) customize an interface supporting management and decision makers.
