AbstractSucceed Where Others Failed: Sharing Regional Data and Resources Track: State and Local Government Author(s): Andre Bally, Marc Barryman, Max Samfield The Geographic Data Committee (GDC) under the auspices of Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC), is a GIS consortium of government agencies and private organizations that is successful where many others have failed. The consortium was formed in 1995 to discuss sharing of resources, associated costs, and technology and to identify any duplication of effort at member agencies. The GDC has continued to grow and take on new projects such as maintenance of a regional basemap, which received Esri's Special Achievement in GIS award, and correcting census data. The paper will discuss the innovative approach to making the GDC a success. Andre Bally Harris County Public Infrastructure Engineering Division 1001 Preston, 7th Flr.
