AbstractBuilding GIS Web Services with .Net and ArcObjects Track: Application Development Author(s): Brian Flood Web services represent a new and exciting way to link computer software across distributed networks. The concept behind a Web service is nothing new and is really just a modern incarnation of old RPC techniques. What is new in the process is an emerging standard for creating, publishing, and consuming these services by disparate computer systems built with various computer languages. XML will be the universal standard for the transfer of instructions, data, and results between machines. This paper will discuss using .net and ArcObjects to build GIS Web services and what the resulting benefits will be.
