AbstractUsing ArcGIS and ArcSDE for Redistricting and Voter Precincting in Los Angeles County Track: State and Local Government Author(s): Kenneth Bennett, R. Cowles, James Sterling Prior to the release of Census 2000 data, the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk (RRCC) relied on separate GIS and attribute databases to conduct ongoing redistricting and voter precincting activities. Edits made to district and precinct features in the GIS system had to be duplicated in the corresponding records of the Voter Information Management System. Keeping these databases synchronized was difficult, adding pressure to an already time-sensitive business process. In anticipation of increased redistricting requirements due to the Census 2000 data, RRCC developed a system using ArcGIS, ArcObjects, Visual Basic, and ArcSDE that optimize its work flow by leveraging geodatabase and versioning technologies and enabling users to manage both spatial and attribute data in an integrated manner within a single GIS-based interface.
