Abstract
From the Ground Up: Building a Complete GIS using MapObjects

This paper describes the of design and development of Maptician, a MapObjects-based mapping and redistricting system. Maptician is built using a number of ActiveX controls including MapObjects 2.1. The two-year-long development effort included implementation of mapping tools, spatial analysis tools, table management functions, and numerous other GIS capabilities. This paper describes how this application was put together and some of the challenges faced during the development effort.
