AbstractAirport Obstruction Survey Using Corrected GPS, Handheld Instruments, and ArcInfo Track: Transportation and Logistics Author(s): Fred McCamic Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) officials required the County Airport Division to clear tall trees that were obstructing runway approaches. Deadline for tree removal was approximately two months. It was necessary to determine the location of each tree, the elevation of the top of the tree, and the elevation of the approach fan. Trees piercing the approach fan would have to be trimmed or removed. Time and cost considerations precluded using traditional surveying techniques. A survey was conducted using corrected GPS, and a handheld magnetic compass and clinometer. ARC Macro Language (AML) was used to perform trigonometric calculations.
