AbstractApproximate Zone--A Floodplain Mapping in Nebraska: Cooperating Technical Partners Track: Water Resources Author(s): James Williams, Brian Dunnigan, Jeff Shafer The Nebraska Department of Natural Resources (NDNR) has greatly accelerated floodplain mapping in Nebraska. In 1998 there were 42 countywide flood maps out of 93 Nebraska counties. By the end of 2002 Nebraska will have maps for 56 counties and will be on schedule to map up to 10 counties per year. NDNR increased mapping efficiency primarily by utilizing GIS software. This paper describes the floodplain mapping status in Nebraska, recent innovations utilizing ArcView 3.2, and the migration to ArcGIS. James Williams State of Nebraska Natural Resources P.O.
