Abstract
Improving the Network Analyst's Performance Using a Saving Heuristic
Track: Transportation and Logistics

This study considers fleet routing and scheduling in urban sites of the Brasilia City. The aim of this work is find out cheaper paths considering truck loads and delivering time restrictions. The paper explores the integration of a saving heuristic to the ArcView 3.2 and a software written in FORTRAN 4.0 was created to allow this heuristic to be used in ArcView in order to facilitate the creation of clusters when many clients are analysed at the same time. The results obtained with the use of this heuristic, route definitions and fleet scheduling, were considered very accurate. Because of its low need for operator's interventions, this software is a helpful tool for managers to formulate daily fleet operations.
