Abstract
GPS/GIS in a Windows CE Environment

The Windows CE environment allows for more flexibility in field data collection. Tasks ranging from GPS data collection to editing shapefiles, doing GPS/GIS data maintenance, working with spreadsheets and emailing data can all be performed on one CE device to get the job done. Esri's ArcPad, Tripod Data System's Solo CE, and Trimble's TerraSync software are three software packages that run in a Windows CE environment. The differences and commonalities of these software products will be compared. Windows CE hardware options, both rugged and economical, will also be presented.
