AbstractSDSS Application for District Planning in India: Case Study of Lucknow District Track: State and Local Government Author(s): Sridhar Vallala, BR Marwah This paper presents the use of GIS both for perceptive and functional planning for a pilot district (Lucknow) of Uttar Pradesh, the most populated state in India. The Spatial Decision Support System (SDSS) has been developed for the socioeconomic infrastructure sectors of education, health, rural roads, and minor irrigation, as these sectors consume nearly 70 percent of the state's resources. The paper explores integration of spatial and nonspatial data of different sectors. The software development is organized into Indicators (to understand overall development in the districts), Summarizers (to facilitate summarization of information across various administrative boundaries), Quarries (to extract the information), and Decision (tools for planning the various facilities and priority areas to be developed in a district). ArcView and Visual Basic are used for customization of the SDSS.
