Abstract
Habitat Connectivity and Representation in Sierra Nevada Potential Wilderness
Track: Ecology, Archaeology, and Conservation

This project will evaluate the level of ecological representation and habitat connectivity afforded by the several million acres of proposed wilderness areas in the Sierra Nevada of California. Esri GIS software, extensions, and other scripts will be employed to provide statistics about the ability of these areas to provide a network of protected lands among relatively unprotected habitats. Using Gap Analysis and focal species, this paper will examine the quantity, average size, shape, and context of proposed protected lands, as well as percentages of protected land and proposed areas by habitat type in the range.
