AbstractUSDA Forest Service MODIS Active Fire Maps: An Integration of GIS/Remote Sensing Technologies Track: EMS, Fire, Disaster Management Author(s): Brad Quayle, Keith Lannom, Mark Finco, John Norton, Dmitriy Kostyuchenko The USDA Forest Service Remote Sensing Application Center (RSAC) produces daily active fire maps for the entire United States. Active fire detections are derived daily from Moderate-resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) data. Daily fire maps depict currently active fires in addition to previously detected burn areas and are delivered via the Internet. The maps and other related geospatial fire products provide the interagency fire community with a synoptic view of the wildfire situation for intent of aiding in the strategic allocation of fire fighting resources and assets throughout the country as well as provide fire information for the general public.
