AbstractSecure Access Control in a Multi-user Geodatabase Track: Database Design, Automation, and Management Author(s): Sahadeb De, Caroline Eastman, Csilla Farkas The environments in which GIS is being implemented and used are changing rapidly, thus producing a rapidly growing need for consideration of the information security in these systems. The Earth Sciences and Resources Institute and the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of South Carolina collaborated to define an access control model to protect data integrity and confidentiality in a multiuser geodatabase within an enterprise-level GIS environment. This paper discusses the issue in implementing the model to enforce access control in spatial databases created with ArcGIS 8.1, ArcSDE 8.1, and Microsoft's SQL Server 2000.
