Abstract
Emergency Management Online Locator System for New York City

The Emergency Management Online Locator System (EMOLS) was developed and implemented for the New York City Mayor's Office of Emergency Management to help direct City residents to shelters in the event of weather emergencies. New dimensions were added to EMOLS in response to the September 11terrorist attack on the World Trade Center. EMOLS was quickly modified to provide residents with information on car and pedestrian restrictions, utility outages, etcetera, in the lower Manhattan area. This presentation will highlight the robust and flexible nature of the Web-based EMOLS that had the capability to adapt to these tragic events and provide vital information to residents in a timely manner.
