AbstractIntegrated Information System for Citrus Production utilizing GIS Track: Agriculture Author(s): Marshall Beatty Agricultural crop production is experiencing increased competition, lower crop prices, increased regulatory scrutiny, and higher input costs. Many agricultural producers are seeking new methods to help them maintain a competitive edge. Technologies such as global positioning systems (GPS), wireless data transfer, the Internet, and geographic information systems (GIS) are becoming essential tools to fully explore crop spatial relationships affecting yield and profitability. This paper details how GIS and mobile GPS are utilized on a large commercial Florida citrus farm to integrate data throughout the enterprise and aid in key crop decision making.
