Abstract

Using a Geodatabase as a Tool in Stormwater Management
Track: Water Distribution, Wastewater, and Stormwater
Author(s): Kirsten Cassingham, Michelle Cienek

The U.S. Geological Survey customized a geodatabase to assist the Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Military Installation in its National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Phase II Stormwater Application. The geodatabase provides a flexible and accessible user-defined platform to integrate national water quality data, mapping data, aerial photographs, and outfall inspection data. The defined relationships of attributes in a geometric network allow for specific queries from the geodatabase. Further benefits of the geodatabase include the ease of continuous updates and access of accurate digital cartographic data to users throughout the installation. The geodatabase was designed to support Fort Bragg in monitoring and managing stormwater runoff and nonstormwater discharge.
