AbstractDeveloping Countries: Agricultural Development Modeling in Sparse Data Environments Track: Agriculture Author(s): John Rodowca, Russ Cowart, Randy How Many developing countries are faced with difficult social and economic decisions relating to allocation of limited financial and natural resource reserves. This paper examines an ArcGIS extension created for use in several South American countries. Environmental risk, agronomic suitability by crop, potential profitability by crop, optimal crop distribution or redistribution, and proposed areas for protected lands may be mapped. Model inputs and relational database design provide a structure within which data may readily be updated and/or densified. Statistical field sampling was used to develop spatial regression relationships that model key parameters in the absence of large scale data.
