AbstractConsiderations for Migrating to Geodatabases Model from a Municipal Perspective Track: State and Local Government Author(s): Matthew Cieri As a local government The City of Kissimmee had to ask the age-old question "Do we go with the unproven new technology or stay with old reliable for a little longer?" This paper presents the advantages and disadvantages of the migration from the old coverage and shapefile model to the new geodatabase model. The presentation also looks into the specific successes and challenges that the City of Kissimmee has had with the migration. The project is focused on the challenges, benefits, and hardships of migrating to the new technology, starting with the use of personal geodatabase and finally moving on to ArcSDE and SQL Server as the geodatabase.
