Abstract
SEARCA Enterprise GIS Implementation
Track: System Implementation for GIS

This paper presents the process and evolution of GIS use from merely existing to a full swing GIS implementation for Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) using Esri software. It discusses 1) problems encountered, (2) strategies undertaken to migrate from desktop GIS to enterprise GIS implementation involving major programs and departments, (3) overview of cost and benefits, (4) application protocols developed to anticipate data handling, metadata, and standardization problems, and (5) systems infrastructure designed. Emphasis is placed on the analytical and integrative role of GIS for R&D programs and, more important in knowledge discovery.
