Abstract
Impact of GIS Technology for the Houston Police Department
Track: Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice

This paper presents the transition being made by the Houston Police Department from a Unisys tabular database to a GIS baseline map using ArcInfo and ArcView. Our presentation will describe the limitations and problems of the department's present system, illustrate the development involved in progressing to new GIS technology, and outline the improvements the baseline map will bring to CAD (computer-aided dispatch), crime analysis, and other divisions of the Houston Police Department.
