AbstractImperial Irrigation Decision Support System Development: A GIS Approach Track: Agriculture Author(s): Tim Hill, John Eckhardt Implementation of water transfers from agricultural uses requires decisions using information describing the spatial and temporal characteristics of water use and system operation. This paper will present the GIS techniques used to develop a network representing 1,600 miles of canals/laterals, 5,700 water delivery turnouts, and 1,400 miles of drains in the IID system. From this network, a MODSIM link-node model, custom Visual Basic application, embedded perl scripts were developed to simulate delivery and drainage systems operation, simulate on-farm demands, route water to the drainage system, and handle pre- and postprocessing of data used in modeling of various conservation scenarios.
