AbstractRealizing the Vision of GIS on Every Desktop Track: Geography Network Author(s): Richard Odom The geospatial community continues to evolve from a technology-centric perspective to one more focused on industry and user solutions. Cheaper computing resources, increased competition in the industry, and greater awareness of the value of geobased information and analysis have resulted in a rapid increase in the application of geospatial technologies throughout academic, government, and business communities. The emergence of the Internet and Web-based technologies will clearly accelerate the use of geospatial technologies even further. But what will it take for geospatial data and applications to reach the level of other ubiquitous decision support tools such as spreadsheets, contact managers, and enterprise financial systems?
