AbstractGlobal Forest Watch: Mapping and Monitoring Forest Development Track: Sustainable Development and Humanitarian Relief Author(s): Susan Minnemeyer, Ralph Ridder, Tyson Walker Global Forest Watch (GFW), an initiative of the World Resources Institute, is an international data and mapping network that combines on-the-ground knowledge with digital technology to provide information about the world's forests. Its objective is to infuse transparency and accountability into the decision making processes that determine how forests are managed and for whom. To further these goals, GFW is compiling, creating, and distributing data on forest development and forest condition, focusing on countries retaining a large portion of their primary forests. This paper describes GFW NGO network and partners, its data products to date, and its plans for future work.
