AbstractA Technological Approach to Environmental Litigation Using GIS Track: Ecology, Archaeology, and Conservation Author(s): Jasmin Becker This paper presents the use of GIS technology in environmental litigation. Litigation is an important means to protect environmental treasures throughout the United States. This paper breaks the litigation process into three overlapping aspects-case development, litigation, and public outreach-and explores the collection, analysis, and display of GIS data in each of these stages. Case studies are used to demonstrate how public interest environmental lawyers can successfully integrate GIS into their litigation strategies. This paper illustrates the truth of the statement "a picture is worth a thousand words," particularly in the courtroom.
