AbstractAn Investigation of Child Restraint Use in Injury Crashes Track: Health and Human Services Author(s): Barbara Stepanski, Leslie Upledger-Ray This investigation of child passengers involved in injury crashes demonstrates a practical application of ArcView GIS and spatial analysis in injury surveillance and prevention. Emergency medical services prehospital patient and SWITRS records were examined for motor vehicle restraint usage for children under 10 years of age. Along with analyzing crash location, investigators examined demographic data to determine age, ethnicity, gender, and medical status of the victims. With this information, investigators are able to focus on identifying high-risk populations and communities and examine baseline data prior to the addition of the new Booster Seat Law effective January 2002.
