AbstractEvaluating Public Water Systems for Possible Contaminating Activities (SWAP) Track: Water Resources Author(s): Susan Shaw This project demonstrates the use of GIS for the Source Water Assessment Program (SWAP), a federally and state mandated program. The mission of the SWAP is to evaluate the vulnerability of all public water systems by identifying possible contaminating activities and mapping them within three delineation zones based on time of travel (2, 5, and 10 years). This is the precursor to source water protection programs. This project is Tulare County's SWAP using more than 82 themes. This paper will demonstrate how GIS is invaluable in environmental health.
