AbstractApplication GIS to Forest Ecosystem Management in Taiwan Track: Forestry, Wildlife, and Fisheries Management Author(s): Fong-Long Feng In the study, GIS was applied in forest ecosystem management (EM) in Taiwan as follows: (1) To develop the forest ecosystem multiscale database of Taiwan in biology and habitat. (2) 4S (RS, GPS, PSP, and GIS) techniques were used for data collection and storage (3) GIS was used to retrieve the data for developing spatial interpolation models and predict model. (4) Apply the GISs for ecoregion classification. (5) To set up the criteria and index of sustainability in different levels and ecoregions (6) GIS was used to interpolate and display the results of simulation with bio ecological scenarios or/and socio-economical scenarios in different spatial and temporal scales. (7) To scale-up the information of different scales. (8) To build up the monitoring system of ecosystem management with 5S techniques (9) To integrate GIS and landscape ecology in designing the desired future condition (10) To do adaptive management in forest ecosystem management with experimental design.
