Abstract

Mapping of Environmentally Sensitive Areas in Leon County, Florida
Track: Environment Management
Author(s): Greg Mauldin

Tallahassee-Leon County GIS (TLCGIS) coordinated the mapping of environmentally sensitive areas (ESAs) as specified by local environmental protection ordinances. The TLCGIS photogrammetric planimetric and topographic land base was used as control. Fifteen layers were mapped at a base scale of 1:2,400. The mapping area covers 550 square miles. There are two primary categories: interpreted layers and DEM derived layers. Interpreted layers include wetlands, water bodies, watercourses, physiographic provinces, and native forests. DEM derived layers include drainage basins, watersheds, closed basins, steep slopes, and karst depressions. This paper describes the project scope, source materials, methodologies, and results.
