Abstract
The Use of Mobile GIS in Forestry

The purpose of this paper is to outline briefly the capabilities of ArcPad 6 asa mobile GIS in German forestry administrations. This mobile GIS works as an information and orientation system on handheld PCs. Manifold geographic and attribute datasets are stored on the handheld and can be retrieved in field. For example, different kinds of forestry maps and the attached attribute information of every area can be displayed. When connected with GPS, the mobile GIS is also a useful data capturing system. Through user-defined forms, existing data can be edited, and new feature attribute data can be added.
