AbstractIntegrating the USFS Forest Vegetation Simulator (FVS) with ArcGIS Track: Forestry, Wildlife, and Fisheries Management Author(s): Mark Books, Ken Bunzel, Tim Eisler, Larry Capelle, David Buckley This paper presents the use reviews of the integration and use of the USFS Forest Vegetation Simulator (FVS) growth and yield model in an ArcMap/ArcGIS-based Decision Support System developed by Space Imaging for Fort A.P. Hill, U.S. Army. The application integrates FVS with ArcMap, allowing users to simulate the effects of various forest management activities into the future. One or more scenarios are defined, and comparisons are made on timber availability, habitat suitability, and military training suitability. Spatial constraint layers can be defined to support users in choosing management activities for a given stand. Data is seamlessly moved into FVS for growth and yield modeling, and output FVS projections are seamlessly transferred into the ArcGIS geodatabase structure to facilitate querying, reporting, and mapping. The iterative scenario modeling design allows users to undertake constraint analysis for nonforest landmarks and adjust prescriptions to accommodate these values at risk. The system allows forest managers to define potential management activities using the full power of FVS and Suppose.
