AbstractThe Chernobyl Sarcophagus Project of the French-German Initiative Track: EMS, Fire, Disaster Management Author(s): Gunter Pretzsch, Veronique Lhomme, Alexander Seleznev, Eugen Seredinin At the Vienna Chernobyl Conference in April 1996, Germany and France declared to support the international cooperation in view of a solution of the Chernobyl-related issues. In 1998 the multinational Sarcophagus Project was launched. In the frame of this initiative, all safety relevant datasets concerning building constructions, systems and equipment, radiological situation, nuclear fuel, radioactive waste, and environmental impact were collected, analyzed and verified as well as integrated in a comprehensive database. ArcView GIS and ArcView Spatial Analyst serve as a navigation system to retrieve information from the database using different cross sections of the Sarcophagus.
