Abstract
State/County Outline Map Production System
Track: Census and Geo-Demographics

Mapping system components used to produce a national map series are presented. Source files, data selection and manipulation, clipping/windowing, names placement and editing, symbolization, map layout and composition, folio composition, pagination, and dissemination formats are examples of phases and functions of the system. Information on establishing a central processing environment with decentralized responsibilities is presented as well as quality control procedures for maintaining high standards for public products.
