AbstractVisualization of Wheat Virus Epidemiology in Virginia Track: Agriculture Author(s): Peter Sforza, Shawn Moore GIS and Virtual Reality provide new opportunities for the visualization and communication of information in the life sciences. Wheat fields were surveyed in twenty-one Virginia counties to document the incidence and severity of pests in 2000 and 2001. This effort is directed towards the identification of elements associated with the incidence of disease using statistical analyses and GIS as an epidemiological tool. Biological data was combined with numerous data sources including aerial photography, land cover maps, meteorological data, soil data, and historical crop information. Virtual environments and multimedia are used to enhance the communication of research results to stakeholder groups.
