AbstractFly Like an Eagle Track: Modeling Author(s): Krysia Sapeta, Chris Russelavage Three-dimensional representation of ground features is the next chapter of GIS and can be used in an endless variety of applications. The authors will discuss a recent project that entailed accurate three-dimensional modeling of Manhattan Island, New York. Each and every building in the project area was photogrammetrically modeled to within an accuracy of +/- two feet. The digital terrainmodel (DTM), initially a series of mass points and break lines, was translated into a triangulated irregular network (TIN), representing a highly accurate surface for 3D modeling. True orthophotography was created of the Island and draped over the TIN, allowing the model of both vector and orthophoto data to be viewed and manipulated inside ArcGIS 3D Analyst.
