AbstractVegetation and Environment of South Mississippi, 1779 Track: Ecology, Archaeology, and Conservation Author(s): Brian Mitchell, Donald Williams Spatial analysis of the marker trees and supplementary vegetation data contained in the original 1779 manuscript map boundary survey between British West Florida and the Choctaw Nation was used to construct a vegetation theme in ArcView. Overlaying this historical vegetation theme on data themes relating to soils, landforms, and modern vegetation demonstrates the relationships that existed between forests and the environment prior to the introduction of European agriculture in southern Mississippi and the changes to that relationship following the decline of agriculture in the twentieth century.
