AbstractStatistical and Geographic Analyses for Scheduling and Planning Wastewater Cleaning Track: Water Distribution, Wastewater, and Stormwater Author(s): Caroline Brundage, Carl Moczydlowsky, John Evans In an effort to reduce sanitary sewer overflows (SSOs), the City of San Diego's Wastewater Collection Division committed to cleaning 3,000 miles of pipe in two years. HDR Engineering, the program manager, used ArcView 8.1 to do statistical and geographic analyses of the pipes most likely to have SSOs and determine which areas were the most environmentally sensitive. The result was a clear indication of cleaning priority. GIS was then used to group pipes into one-month work packets for 32 crews. This paper will discuss the steps taken using GIS to form a final cleaning schedule for the 3,000 miles of pipe. Caroline Brundage HDR Engineering, Inc.
