AbstractThe City of Orlando's GIS Weather Public Safety Solution Track: EMS, Fire, Disaster Management Author(s): Reed Moormeier, Clive Reece In late 2001, the City of Orlando, Florida initiated a GIS-based, weather decision support system that will enable the City to make timely and more accurate decisions to improve the safety of the City and quality of life for citizens. The City's emergency response personnel will be able to ensure a higher level of public safety through effective decision support tools and a locally based weather infrastructure. In Addition, Public Works will be able to better manage the City's urban watersheds through access to both real-time and historic high-resolution rainfall data. This Paper discusses the planning, implementation, and initial outcomes of this project.
