Abstract
Building Enterprise Web GIS Application for Pipeline Industry

This paper explores the integration of ArcIMS and other development software into three-tier serverside applications for pipeline and other corridor industries. Clients from this industry have highly customized function requests, such as supporting large amounts of raster data, cross projection vector data, and linear referenced event data, which are beyond the out-of-the-box solutions provided by ArcIMS. The paper presents solutions that take full advantage of the open architecture of ArcIMS and use XML to communicate between components. It also discusses software design and hardware considerations to support an enterprise Web GIS service including performance tuning, load balancing, and 24/7 monitoring.
