AbstractIntegrating Tools and Datasets for the Global GIS Project Track: Metadata and Data Publishing Author(s): Trent Hare, Paul Hearn, Paul Schruben The USGS has a well-deserved reputation for the collection, interpretation, and distribution of geologic, hydrologic, cartographic, and biologic data. Although the Bureau's mission is primarily domestic in focus, many of the data sets USGS develops are global. These include the global topography; a wide variety of remotely sensed products; data on world oil, gas, coal, and mineral deposits; biodiversity; and geologic hazards (earthquakes, volcanoes, and landslides). Virtually all of these data sets are readily available; however, very few have been combined into a user-friendly integrated product. The global GIS is built from 1:1 million scale and put on seven CD-ROMs organized by regions of the world and one global DVD volume. It also comes packaged with a free, enhanced version of ArcView Data Publisher by Esri.
