AbstractGIS Use in America's War Against Terrorism Track: Homeland Security Author(s): Forrest Lamb, Barbara Hough This paper will focus on the use of GIS to ensure that antiterrorism and force protection standards are incorporated into the planning, programming, and construction of our communities. The paper will more specifically focus on the subject of antiterrorism and force protection as a subset of the broader topic of emergency management. Situational awareness is key to developing a successful planning strategy. The presentation will discuss examples of how GIS can be used as a tool to display and evaluate the impact of stand-off distances and exclusive zones in community planning.
