AbstractLegal Issues in GIS Track: State and Local Government Author(s): Randy Booze The Legal Issues in GIS cover four major areas of concern related to (1) the public's right to know, (2) intellectual property rights, (3) the public's right to privacy, and (4) liability in the use and distribution of geographic information. Through further research and more recent legal debate, a number of these issues have become more important as various GIS practitioners continue to create and distribute geographic-related information via networks and the Internet. This presentation will address some of the founding legal principles and discuss the application of these principles in practical situations. Randy Booze City of Mesa Information Services-GIS 200 S.
