Integrating Enterprise Spatial Data: Using Oracle Spatial and SDE Direct Connect

Enterprise-scale geodatabases promise to support the spatial data capture, management, analysis, and presentation needs of departments and users throughout organizations. For most organizations this promise requires supporting many spatially aware applications including computer-aided drafting (CAD), GIS, and custom in-house developed applications. This paper presents real-world examples of how to use Oracle8i's native geometry specification, ArcGIS tools, and SDE Direct Connect to build an enterprise geodatabase capable of serving spatial information to the rich ArcGIS tool set as well as other Oracle-based spatial clients.
