Abstract
A Road Map to GIS and OMS Integration
Track: Electric and Gas

To effectively handle electric network outages and manage electric facilities, many electric utilities use an Outage Management System (OMS) and GIS. Based on experience of implementing and integrating an ArcInfo GIS and CES (Centricity) OMS for Potomac Electric Power Company, Washington D.C. (PEPCo), this paper provides a road map through implementation and integration of an ArcInfo 8 based-GIS and OMS. The paper summarizes the implementation and integration processes into four phases: data model design, data model review and integration, OMS and GIS system integration test, and data maintenance in GIS and OMS. Major roadblocks related to each phase are identified, and alternative solutions
are provided.
