Integrating and Delivering Spatial Information: The Santa Clara County, CA Planning Office Web Site

The Santa Clara County, California, Planning Office uses multiple databases, shapefiles, and documents to guide the development of property in the Silicon Valley. County planners, working on the Apple computing platform, have traditionally had to manually compile maps and certain data (managed on non-Apple computers) to support planning analysis and service public information requests. Using ArcIMS 3.1, the County developed a Web site that presents planners and the public with a single, consistent, intuitive interface to quickly access relevant databases, map data, and documents directly from a browser on their desktops. Planners can now communicate more quickly and effectively with the public.
