AbstractComparing Two GIS Applications to Develop Relative Landslide Potential Track: Mining and Geosciences Author(s): Timothy Parker, Lisa Ohara This paper presents a comparison of two GIS applications in evaluation of mass wasting and soil erosion in forested terrain in the North Coast Ranges, California. California Division of Mines & Geology (CDMG) is mapping landslide activity over time by completing multiyear aerial photograph review, geologic assessment, field reconnaissance, and data transfer into GIS for development of maps of geologic and geomorphic features related to landslides on a watershed basis. ArcView Spatial Analyst ModelBuilder and ERDAS IMAGINE were utilized to develop a framework of relative landslide potential with consideration of criteria including slope, geomorphologic feature, and geology, and results are contrasted.
