Despite the known risk factors, such as prone sleeping position, overheating, material smoking, winter months, and lower social status, SIDS remains the major unknown cause of infant mortality. This study collects the SIDS cases in Shelby County, Tennessee between 1977 and 1998. GIS and spatial analysis methods are used to identify the spatial pattern of SIDS. Sociodemography data is processed to correlate with the SIDS incident. Findings in this study may have an impact in reducing infant deaths.
