AbstractThe Turtle Tells Tales: Systematically Mapping a Local Watershed Track: K-12 Education and Library Science Author(s): Roger Palmer The Turtle River outside of Grand Forks, North Dakota, is a 45-mile stream that originates from a glacially deposited aquifer. It flows down the west shore of ancient Lake Agassiz, crossing the lake floor that today contains the richest farmland in the world. Red River High School partnered with several local government and business resources to systematically characterize the physical, chemical, and economic profile of this valuable waterway. Students work to balance the needs of agriculture, a growing sport fishing industry, and a natural repose for the people of Grand Forks in order for all players to be satisfied.
