AbstractUsing GIS in Geo-Economic and Environmental Analysis in Western Jamaica Track: Mining and Geosciences Author(s): Valrie Grant, Kurt Harry, Silburn Clarke This paper uses GIS to take a comprehensive look at the stratigraphy and geological structure of the Marchmont Inlier in Western Jamaica and examine the economic potential and environmental element of the area. The study area comprises a Cretaceous succession. The other formations were deposited in the middle Tertiary period. Being mainly limestone, the topography is a rugged karst scenery. An interpretation of the structural history of the area suggests that there are Cretaceous folds and Tertiary faults. The study highlights the economic importance of the identified formations, its environmental attributes and an effective approach for integrated management of the area.
