AbstractChicago Area Transportation Study (CATS): An MPO, GIS Data, and an Intranet II Track: Transportation and Logistics Author(s): Mary Scott Chicago Area Transportation Study (CATS) is the Metropolitan Planning Organization for Northeast Illinois. As such CATS uses significant amounts of geographic and demographic data that is often hard to find within the computer system and once found, poorly documented. This paper documents how ArcGIS and ArcIMS were used to improve data documentation and information distribution. It describes three initial projects, their design, implementation and reception. The projects include an application to distribute Census and Tiger2000 data, a Transportation Improvement Plan (TIP) application and a Regional Transportation Plan (RTP) application.
